"We couldn’t have more gratitude to you for your instruction, patience, guidance, and kindness with regards to our daughter and the piano. She came to you just about two years ago, as a sophomore in high school, with 8 years of study and lots of passion for the instrument and the repertoire, but also with technical challenges that had led to pain in her right hand. Her previous teacher was supportive and inspiring but was unable to resolve the pain she was experiencing, and our daughter decided to seek further guidance. We have been so grateful to have found you! You so patiently, kindly, and generously gave our daughter your time, knowledge, and guidance with regards to repertoire and the Taubman approach to lead her to a much higher level not only with her technique, but with her musicality and ability to pursue meaningful practice. It took patience and dedication, but her love of the instrument, coupled with newfound capabilities and your dedication to teaching, led our daughter to apply to college for music study. She did many auditions and preparatory recordings and received not only entrance to performance programs at several institutions, but significant scholarship funding! This was very exciting! She could not have done this, however, without the expertise you so generously shared over the last two years, delivered with such kindness. We are truly indebted to you for your support of our daughter through such a journey. As I write this, I am hearing her practice with the new skills and insight she has learned; she is a much more advanced musician than two years ago and continues to have a passion for the instrument. Thank you!"

"I have been working with I-Wen for almost four years now.  The beginning was during tumultuous times, for lessons started only months before shutdown due to the Pandemic at the end of March of 2020.  We had many remote lessons as a result, yet we each persevered in doing the work in something that is essentially physical work, where touch, tweaking and readjustment of arms, wrists, hands and fingers, and finger joints are often needed, as in occupational therapy, when it comes to learning the Taubman Technique!  A piano teacher myself, I had pain when playing advanced repertoire from tension in the forearms and had no power or stamina when tackling larger pieces.  For this reason, I did not teach students past the intermediate level.  Some years ago, I was present at I-Wen’s introductory workshop, at one of our local Teachers Association meetings, of the basic principles of the Taubman technique.  What she showed us was a revelation to me.  It was pure physics.  She shed light on the absurdity of the isolation of thumb and curling and isolation of fingers, as taught in traditional piano technique.  She demonstrated that movement across the keys requires unity between fingers, hands and forearm.  To me this sounded like a cure to my ills at the keyboard.  I knew right then and there that I wanted to relearn to play from scratch, and that I wished to learn from I-Wen.  I-Wen has always been patient, her approach gentle, yet she has always kept high standards, which is what I expect of a teacher, as I wish to honor the music I play.  She also has a sense of humor and during lessons we have good laughs.  I am now pain- and fatigue- free, am gaining strength, speed, and confidence at the keyboard, and am developing nuanced tone and expression as my keyboard coordination skills improve with time.  Kind colleagues who have seen my progress have said “You are light years away” from where I was when I started.  Thank you, I-Wen!"  - Wendy

“I developed hand discomfort shortly after starting to play piano. When my discomfort worsened, my teacher encouraged me to look into the Taubman technique that has proven to be successful with injured pianists.  There were no Taubman teachers in this area so I tried to learn all I could from books and on-line sources, but I could not make progress. Finally, just as I decided I would travel if necessary to find a teacher, I found that I-Wen had recently started teaching in Baltimore.

After working with I-Wen, I’ve found that my discomfort is greatly reduced and my hands are still improving as I master more of the technique.  I am amazed at how the Taubman technique has very specific solutions to almost every problem in playing, and how the application of the technique can improve comfort, tone and speed.  Taubman teachers like I-Wen are trained observers and can pick up problems and offer solutions that are not available to those without training. I find I-Wen to be good at explaining, demonstrating and mentoring. I-Wen’s goal is always to help you achieve your goals and she offers advice in a non-judgmental way. I would highly recommend I-Wen to anyone who wants to start playing piano with the best foundation, wants to improve their playing,  or wants to overcome discomfort at the piano.“  - Bruce

"I-Wen has completely transformed my playing; I came to her a technique-less music lover, and I leave one year later as a college-bound pianist on a performance scholarship. She is wonderful to work with, and I can honestly say that I would not have gotten into the program that I did without her." - Sara

"I believe that I-Wen truly cares about her students. She has gone above and beyond with my daughter, rebuilding her technique from the ground up and modeling her into a pianist that I am proud to listen to." - Kristie

"A few years ago I had reached a limit in my piano playing and was not advancing in the two key areas of speed and voicing. These limitations were preventing me from playing the pieces I desired. My family and I moved to Maryland a couple of years ago and I met I-Wen. She asked if I would be up for working a technique focused on using physics and the natural movements of the body to address my areas of concern. At that point I was up for a change and decided it was truly a good time to do this. With I-Wen’s very patient coaching and steady method to help me adopt the new methods, I have seen major advancements in my playing. I would not hesitate to recommend I-Wen as a wonderful teacher for both adults and children. She has a gentle, but firm style that meshes well with my daughter and she has been very diligent with me to improve my level of performance. I look forward to continued advancement for both my daughter and myself." - Christine
